Catedral Metropolitana Basilica de San Juan Bautista #165411054
Description
The Roman Catholic cathedral of the Archdiocese of San Juan de Puerto Rico is the oldest cathedral in the United States and one of the oldest structures in old San Juan. Originally built from wood with a thatched roof in 1521, the cathedral was rebuilt in 1540 after being destroyed by hurricane ââ¬ÅSan Franciscoââ¬Â that lingered over Puerto Rico on October 4th and 5th, 1526. The cathedral contains the tomb of Spanish explorer/conquistador and first governor of Puerto Rico, Ponce de Leon.
