Description
The controversial statue, `Rumors of War,` by Kehinde Wiley graced Times Square from September 27 until December 1st, 2019. The monumental bronze sculpture on a stone pedestal depicts an African-American man attired in contemporary urban street wear striking a proud pose is an answer to Confederate statues which became popular throughout the South in the 1890s on the 25th anniversary of the Civil War. It was scheduled to be moved to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. Wiley is known for painting the official portrait of President Barack Obama. Photo taken on Nov. 30, 2019.
