Munich Stadium #16717031
Description
Still modern after almost 40 years: Architect Guenther Behnisch and structural engineer Frei Otto created a visually interesting and unique stadium for the Munich Olympic Games. Deliberately light, in stark contrast to the stadium built to host the 1936 Nazi Olympics, the tensile glass tent-like roof was a lightweight structure on a scale that had never been seen before. The architectural quality of the stadium is evident by the fact that almost 40 years after its completion, Frei Ottoââ¬â¢s roof looks as modern as the day the games opened.
