Castellammare del Golfo (Sicily) #16718571
Description
According to historians and geographers, Castellammare del Golfo was originally the emporium (port) of the town of Segesta. So the history of this town facing the gulf was parallel - at least until 827 a.D., year in which it became Arab - with that of Segesta, because they both underwent the same events. However, the destruction of the town of Segesta did not mean also the destruction of its port, because the same Romans realized its importance, and for this reason increased its military features.
