Description

Pictured is a plaque translating the west face of the Syone granite Obelisk titled `Cleopatra`s Needle`. It was one of a pair made by the Egyptian pharaoh Thutmosis III in 1461 BC and now situated in Central Park, New York City. They once stood on either side of the portals to the Temple of the Sun in the sacred city of Heliopolis on the Nile River. It now stands on Greywacke Knoll where it was turned upright on January 22, 1881.
