Description
Pictured are the sculptures atop the Maine Monument which honors the 260 American sailors of the USS Maine, which sank in Havana, Cuba in 1898. Columbia Triumphant is in a seashell chariot led by three hippocampi half horse, half seahorse. It was dedicated May 30, 1913. The sculptor was Attilio Piccirilli. It is located in Central Park at Columbus Circle.
