Helen Suzman, revered anti-apartheid activist, parliamentarian, and human rights advocate from South Africa gives the keynote address at the 1st International Jewish Feminist Conference in Jerusalem, Israel on November 28, 1988. Although she was often a lonely voice championing human rights in her native country, she surprised some at the conference when she pleaded with them to resist boycotting her nation because the boycott was hurting many of the champions of those very progressive causes that the conference participants held most fervently. Suzman died in Johannesburg, South Africa on January 1, 2009 at the age of 91.
