Description
Buffalo farming is of great importance in dairy industry. Buffalo and foreign breed cows give more quantity of milk. In India, 55 percent milk i.e. 20 million tons of milk is obtained from buffalo rearing. There are mainly three types of buffalo found in India, of which Muraha, Mehsana and Surti are prominent. Moorha is considered the major breed of buffaloes. It is mostly found in Haryana and Punjab. State Governments have also released the Handbook of Agricultural Research Council Indian Center Government of India for detailed information about buffaloes of this breed. Mehsana is a mixbreed. It is found in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Buffaloes of this breed give 1200 to 3500 liters of milk a month. Surti is a small breed buffalo. It is a buffalo with standing horns. This breed is also found in Gujarat. It gives 1600 to 1800 liters of milk in a month
