Moon gates are traditional architectural element in Chinese gardens.Also known as Huaqing Hot Springs near Mount Li in Shaanxi China, Huaqing palace was used for emperors` short stays away from the capital for over 3,000 years. This was also the location of the 1936 Xi`an Incident where Chiang Kai-shek was held captive for 2 months in order to get him to agree to cooperate with the communists to fight the Japanese during World War 2.
