The Fontana or Fontanone di Ponte Sisto in Rome, Italy #170175376
Description
The Fontana or Fontanone di Ponte Sisto, once known as the Fontanone dei Cento Preti in the characteristic and historical district of Trastevere in Rome, Italy. Now located in the Trilussa Square the early 17th-century, monumental fountain originally was at the bottom of Via Giulia. In 1870 the decision to widen the Tiber river banks sacrificed the palace to which it leant against and the fountain was necessarily ââ¬Åmovedââ¬Â and stored in the cityââ¬â¢s storage. In 1898 it was recovered and reconstructed by the architect Angelo Vescovali exactly where we see it now, located on the slopes of a staircase. This reconstruction allows a spectacular view: practically overlapping each other, you can admire the fountain of the Cento Preti and at the top of the Janiculum hill the water fountain of Acqua Paola.
