Palazzo dei diamanti, Renaissance palace, Ferrara has numerous palaces dating from the Renaissance, when it hosted the court of the House of Este. For its beauty and cultural importance, it has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Palazzo dei Diamanti is a Renaissance palace that houses the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Ferrara, the National Painting Gallery. The most remarkable feature of the palace is the ââ¬Åbugnatoââ¬Â diamond shape ashlar of the exterior walls: more than 8000 white marble blocks carved to represent diamonds. The ashlar became popular in Italy in Renaissance architecture to impart majesty to the facades of buildings.
