Archaeological Complex of the Roman Houses of Caelium Hill in Rome, Italy #171329005
Description

Sculptures in the site’s museum of the Archaeological Complex of the Roman Houses of Caelium Hill in Rome, Italy. The museum was completed in 2002 and presents various artifacts from the site’s excavation including amphoras, ceramics and a large fresco from the Medieval oratory. Many of the objects within the museum are not directly from the sites past as roman houses but rather come from the centuries afterwards, when the site was forgotten about and used as storage or as a place to put objects that were no longer needed. Below the Basilica of Saints John and Paul the archaeological area is located on top of Caelian Hill, one of the famous seven hills of Rome, long known as the home for some of Rome’s wealthiest elites. The current basilica of Saint Paul and John was built at the end of the 4th century AD exactly on top of the archaeological complex, site in which it was supposed the saints John and Paul had been buried, with other Christian martyrs like Crispus, Srispianus, and Benedicta.
