Description
The Uros or Urus are an acculturated people, formerly living in floating islands of the Puno region, on Lake Titicaca in Peru. They were originally called the Kyotsuñi abbreviation of the words Qhas qut suñi meaning `the people of the lake` in their language: the uruquilla or Lupihaques meaning `son of the sun`.In the 1950s, the Uros for the most part abandoned their language, their specific traditions and their floating reed islands, integrating with the Aymaras bordering Lake Titicaca.
