River Marden in Calne #172146510
Description
The river Marden rises in the north-western edge of the Marlborough Downs from aquifers in the Southern England Chalk Formation and flows through Calne and eventually joins the river Avon near Chippenham. The Marden played a part in the discovery of oxygen in the 1770s when Joseph Priestly collected gases from the river bed. The photo shows the river as it runs through the centre of Calne.
