Velvet Shank Fungus - Flammulina Velutipes In Late Winter. Having vibrant orange-brown caps are in fruit most of the Winter. It is a stump rotting fungus but is also found on standing deadwood. It is a mushroom used extensively in Japanese cuisine known as Enokitake. But cultivated varieties are usually white. The wild varieties grow from September through to March. A cheering sight on a cold Winters day.
