Originally for the California Midwinter International Exposition of 1894, the bandshell was a gift from Claus Spreckels the sugar baron, creating the nickname of `Spreckles Temple of Music`. Leading to the bandshell is a column of fountains flanked by London Plane and Scotch Elm trees.
