Description
Situated along the beach road in Puducherry, the Ambedkar Mani Mandapam was built in the memory of the Indian revolutionist and political leader, Dr. Ambedkar. As independent India`s first law minister, he was the principal architect of the Constitution of India. Dr. Ambedkar was born in a poor untouchable family and spent all his life fighting the discrimination of the caste system in India. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna which is Indiaââ¬â¢s highest award given to civilians. He converted to Buddhism which initiated a mass conversion of Dalits into Buddhism. The Ambedkar monument at Pondicherry houses a golden colored statue of Dr. Ambedkar that is kept under a building of pure white color giving the monument a striking look.
