After the announcement the past week of the first case of Coronavirus COVID-19 by president Alejandro Giammattei on Friday, and the first death caused by this virus yesterday in this Central American country, Security and Health measures were heightened by the government like the closure of the borders for the next two weeks, the ban on all travel to Guatemala from citizens from the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia, and a general call for calm and no to panic to all Guatemalans, as the citizens rushed to stores and pharmacies for supplies. The Pandemic caused by the Coronavirus on all the world has caused the closure of most countries and the imposition of quarantines to citizens and anyone who presents symptoms or is infected with the disease. The World Health Organization WHO has declared the Coronavirus Pandemic as a deadly one, with death cases rising rapidly worldwide, specially in countries like Spain, Italy or France. In Latin America, the pandemic is still to hit and its expected to do the hardest. Like the Swine Flu fever H5N1 that also spread worldwide in 2009 but less deadly, sanitary measures have been heightened and a State of Emergency has been issued for Guatemala for two weeks, with cases expected to raise.
