Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. addresses a meeting in Cedar Grove, New Jersey in August, 2011. DiVincenzo, a Democrat, has served in the capacity of Essex County Executive since 2003. He announced on April 1, 2020 that he had tested positive for the coronavirus and had self-quarantined. He is the second Essex County official to have tested positive. At the time of his announcement, Essed County, the second largest county in the Garden State, had the second highest incidence and second highest death rate of covid-19. Although it is the 4th smallest state in size, New Jersey is 11th in population. New Jersey, with a population of 8.96 million people, is the most densely populated state in America. The 67-year-old DiVencenzo received his college bachelors degree in Public Health.
