Hugh Downs, broadcaster, journalist, tv host, news anchor, game show host, music composer and author visits with the Commissioner of the Mayor`s Office for Senior Citizens and Handicapped in Chicago, Illinois in 1979. Ahrens` expertise and lengthy service provided assistance and practical to Congress in crafting Older Americans acts and ancillary legislation. Downs is also quite knowledgeable about the topic of aging, and was in town to publicize his book, `Thirty Dirty Lies About Old.` Among the longtime television emcee gigs Downs held in his over 5 decades long broadcasting career were as host of the tv game show `Concentration` from 1958-1969, anchor of `The Today Show,` from 1962-1971, and Emmy-winning co-host, with Barbara Walters, of `20/20,` from 1978 until 1999. He also logged more hours on network commercial television than anyone else. Downs celebrated his 99th birthday on February 14, 2020. Ahrens died in 2003 at the age of 80. Downs died on July 1, 2020 in Scottsdale, Arizona at 99 years old.
