Description
Most tulip species are found in the wild in Central Asia, but are also native to North Africa, the Middle East, the Far East, and Europe. About 125 wild species are known in these areas. Presumably, cultivation began around Tien-san and the Pamir-Altai, where 51 species live within a radius of about 1,000 km. We also find native tulip species in Europe. In the Carpathian Basin, four species live in the wild, the best known of which are the Hungarian tulips living in the Kazan Strait and the Iron Gate Strait, which are 40ââ¬â50 cm high and bloom in April.
