Ceske Budejovice was founded as a royal city in 1265. The location was carried out at the behest of King Premysl Otakar II. his knight Hirzo. The new town was supposed to be the missing base of royal power in South Bohemia, where the Vitkov and Roà ¾mberg families had significant power. These two `local powers` competed with each other for a long time until both of them were suppressed by their common enemy - the Hussites.
