Description
Kori bustard (Ardeotis kori) in tail-up position balloon display.The male extends his neck and fully inflates the esophageal pouch with the bill pointed upward. The tail and wing feathers are pointing downward and the head crest is erect. The height of the male display, the pouch inflates to asmuch as four times its normal size, and the neck resembles a balloon or giant puffy ball. This action causes the normally gray feathers to reveal their whitebases. The balloon display makes the male visible up to 1 km away and is the most intense form of courtship.
