Description
White-Backed Vulture or White Rumped Vulture Gyps africanus in Camelthorn trees, Etosha National Park, Namibia.White-backed vultures are found in open wooded savanna and scattered trees, such as areas populated by Acacia/Camelthorn and Mopane trees Colosphermum mopane. They are mainly a lowland species but do however require tall trees for nesting. They nest in loose colonies White-backed vultures occupy most of the African continent and were once one of the most widespread and common. They face extinction in recent years.
