Description
Actress, screenwriter, singer, and songwriter Karen Black chats with her mother, author of children`s books, Elsie Mary Reif Ziegler, before the tribute to Black at the Chicago Film Festival in November, 1979. Black gained fame for her supporting roles in `Easy Rider` and `Five Easy Pieces.` The latter film, in 1970 earned her National Board of Review, New York Film Critics, and Golden Globe Awards for Best Supporting Actress, as well as an Oscar nomination. She played the role of frustrated waitress `Rayette Dipesto,` opposite Jack Nicholson. She also shared an Academy Award nomination for 2 songs written and performed in `Nashville.` Black was a local hero, since she was born and grew up in nearby Park Ridge, Illinois. She died on August 8, 2013 in Santa Monica, California from cancer at the age of 74.
