Church of St. George in Kolomenskoye Moscow, Russia #180565579
Description
Stone Church of the XVII century with a bell tower of the middle of the XVI century on the territory of the Kolomenskoye Museum-reserve. It is located in the Nagatinsky Zaton district of the southern administrative district of Moscow. Monument of Russian architecture. The bell tower of the modern Church of St. George, apparently, was built in the middle of the XVI century and at first belonged to the nearby Church of the ascension. It probably replaced the belfry that towered over the South porch of the ascension Church. On the site of the wooden refectory, the Church of St. George was built according to the project of Yevgraf Tyurin the author of the Elokhovsky Cathedral. During the reconstruction, the appearance of the bell tower changed: the exterior decor was cut down, the window openings were enlarged, and a vaulted ceiling was made inside the bell tower pillar.
