The Kihei Beach Shore Protection Project is located at Kalama beach park on the southern shoreline of Maui. The sandbags and sheet piles are only temporary measures until a regional beach nourishment project is completed. The sandbags are to protect from erosion from storm wave action that erodes the coastline and removes sand. This view from Maui looks over the strait to Molokai. The Shoreline Protection Project is subject to local lawsuits to prevent land owners from taking steps to prevent erosion. 2017 2018
