Shaped Grape gates in Tsaritsyno Park #180590479
Description
The figured gate is one of the best works of Vasily Bazhenov in the Tsaritsyno estate. The architect himself called them `gates of a beautiful figure`. The building is located next to the Middle Palace Opera house and separates the Park part of the estate from the Palace. This is one of the first buildings of the estate, its construction took place in 1777-1778.The shaped gates are very elegant and are not only a Park element, but also a sculptural ensemble. Their main decoration is a pointed arch, decorated with an openwork pattern of faceted white stones on a metal base. In the center of the intricate pattern is a grape brush, which is why the gate is also called a Grape.Unfortunately, the entire sculptural composition has not survived to this day. And once Figured gates were decorated with ceramic figures - four decorative vases, two pug dogs and two cupids. This decoration was lost in the XIX century. The sculpture of one dog was found and is now stored in the Museum of architecture named after A.V. Shchusev.Vasily Bazhenov called the Figured gate a structure of `delicate Gothic architecture`. The amazing beauty of the building, created by the architect with great love, has become a kind of emblem of the Park
