Description
The Opera house Middle Palace is one of the most interesting and complexly decorated buildings in Tsaritsyn. It was built by the court architect Vasily Bazhenov. Along with the Great and Small palaces, the Middle Palace is intended directly for Catherine II. However, Catherine II does not approve of the Tsaritsyn residence and removes Bazhenov from office. After his dismissal, work in the Middle Palace stops. At the beginning of the XIX century, Tsaritsyno became a popular place for country walks and picnics. On the plan of 1816, the Middle Palace is designated as the `Opera house` - the building is supposed to be used for performances and musical evenings.
