On August 15, 1966, the USSR and Fiat signed an agreement under which the Italians should design a factory for the production of cars, fully equip it and establish the production of three models of passenger cars — `Norm` in the sedan and wagon body — VAZ-2101 and 2102, as well as `Lux` — VAZ-2103.The model 2101 is an improved copy of the FIAT 124 which was produced in Italy since 1966.
