ââ¬Â¢The Aztec feathered serpent embodies a subtle and complex symbolism. Unlike the divine oriental birds, which kill snakes, it is a symbiosis between the light ascending and the primary symbols of darkness. The snake, the most horizontal of animals, a prominent symbol of matter, earth, inert toropel, rises on its tail and thus suggests the specific human verticality. And the feathered serpent represents the hybridization of two seemingly irreconcilable species: the union of the crawler with the winged substance
