GUM abbreviation for `State Department store`, until 1921-Upper shopping rows #180928883
Description
Specially created `joint Stock company of Upper shopping rows on red square in Moscow` held a competition, which was won by the project of A. N. Pomerantsev. The works were carried out in 1890-1893. on December 2, 1893, the complex was officially opened. Although the architect moved away from the classic style in favor of pseudo-Russian, the structure of the complex remained the same: lines, aisles and wide Windows of storefronts. Elongated `teremkova` roofs and tents with spires over the main entrance are in harmony with the towers of the Kremlin. Thanks to engineers V. G. Shukhov and A. F. Loleyt, the passages `rows` received roofs with glazing.
