Lal Gumbad Tomb At Delhi, India Stock Photo

If you look at this tomb & find it to be an indistinguishable copy of Ghiyas-ud-din Tughluq`s tomb then you wouldn`t be alone! This heritage specimen is known as Lal Gumbad & it is a spectacular example of Pre-Mughal architecture in Delhi. Situated in what is today`s Malviya Nagar area, this tomb houses the grave of Sheikh Kabbiruddin Auliya, who was a disciple of 14th century sufi saint, Sheikh Chirag-i-Dehlvi.Lal Gumbad was knowingly fashioned on the design of Ghiyas-ud-din Tughluq`s tomb design & it also got the name of Rakabwala because of the golden finial it was once ornamented with, but it was later stolen by thieves. People believed that iron rings which are still seen on its western wall are the same ones that were set up by the thieves, for scaling up the walls of the tomb.
