The origins of the city of Jodhpur dates back to the year 1459 AD when it was founded by Rao Jodha, the Rajput chieftain of the Rathores. The Rathore kingdom was also known as `Marwar` and was the largest in Rajputana. Jodhpur was built as the new capital of the state of Marwar to replace the ancient capital, Mandore.Dominating the skyline of this city is Mehrangarh Fort which is the largest fort in all of Rajasthan. In its 500+ years of history, this fort has never been taken by force & its easy to see why! It occupies the entire top of a 150 meter tall hill with commanding views all around & about three kilometers of massive ramparts built around the edges.
