Fateh Pol at Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur #
Description

It was the year 1707 that the sixth Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb, died after having ruled over almost the entire South Asia for 49 years. With his demise, several kingdoms rebelled openly to reclaim their lands. One such example being that of Jodhpur which was until then ruled by a Mughal Governor.Following Aurangzeb`s death, Durgadas Rathore, a senior officer of the former ruler of Jodhpur, seized the city and fort, eventually evicting the occupying Mughal force. This heralded the next phase of construction and upgradation of the fort complex and the then Maharaja Ajit Singh had this gate known as Fateh Pol or Victor Gate built in 1719, to commemorate the victory over Mughals, back in 1707.
