Male Asian elephants are usually about 261ââ¬â289 cm 8 ft 7 inââ¬â9 ft 6 in tall at the shoulder and 3.5ââ¬â4.6 t 3.9ââ¬â5.1 short tons whereas females are 228ââ¬â252 cm 7 ft 6 inââ¬â8 ft 3 in tall at the shoulder and 2.3ââ¬â3.1 t 2.5ââ¬â3.4 short tons. Udawalawe National Park lies on the boundary of Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces, in Sri Lanka. The national park was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir on the Walawe River, as well as to protect the catchment of the reservoir.
