Larry Kramer at 2011 Tony Awards #184420361
Description
This dramatic monochrome rendering of compassionate author, activist and public health advocate Larry Kramer was made as he arrives on the red carpet for the 65th Annual Tony Awards at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on June 12, 2011. Kramer`s play, `The Normal Heart` won for Best Revival of a play later that evening. He was a tireless advocate for LGBT causes, particularly during the AIDS crises. He was no stranger to controversy and an equal opportunity offender, crossing swords with President Reagan, Mayor Ed Koch, and even epidemiologist Dr. Anthony Fauci, with whom he later became friends. His efforts were designed to raise awareness in the gay community as well as public health officials of the magnitude and gravity of illness striking the lgbt community very hard. Kramer died on May 27, 2020 in New York City at the age of 84 from pneumonia.
