Red Ludlow style wall post box in Alnmouth #185381827
Description
Wall posting box in Northumberland from George VI reign. These type of boxes were located at sub-post offices because at one time the sub-post master or mistress was required to buy their own secure posting box. This style is named after one of the manufacturers James Ludlow & Son Birmingham. The cast iron front but wooden box made them cheaper to make. They were styled with an enamel plate.
