The Incas built several warehouses or qullqas of unshaped or coarsely cut stone on the hills around the town of Ollantaytambo. Their location at high altitudes, where there is more wind and lower temperatures, served as an environment against cavities. To enhance this microclimate qullqas barns belonging to Ollantaytambo are equipped with ventilation systems.
