Gedhong Gapura Hageng or Gapura Agung used to be the main gate of Tamansari. This gate is decorated with bird and flower reliefs, which are the candra sengkala of Lengkeng Kembang Sinesep. The memengkalan memet points to the year of making Tamansari, 1691 Java or 1765 AD. Behind the gate there is a ladder that leads to the court above the gedhong. From this courtyard you can see the view under the gate. This gate was originally decorated with a statue of four dragons whose tails are wrapped around each other. This statue is a memet span which reads Catur Naga Rasa Tunggal, referring to 1684 Java as the year of the founding of the gate.
