Stations of the Cross in a small town in central Italy #189303325
Description
The tradition of celebrating the Way of the Cross was founded in Jerusalem Via Dolorosa. Its creation was undoubtedly influenced by the finding of the Holy Cross, the pilgrimage of the faithful to Jerusalem as a place related to the life and death of Christ, and the desire to recreate the Passion of Christ for those who could not make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. In the Middle Ages it was spread by the Franciscans, who, showing their pilgrims, stopped at stations depicting the story of Jesus` death.
