Roque Bentayga is one of the most unique geological formations on the island of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain. It is located in the Nublo Rural Park, in the Tejeda volcanic caldera, in the municipality of the same name. The Roque Bentayga has basaltic pythons typical of the geological structure of Gran Canaria. Its height is 1,414 meters above sea level. Roque Bentayga is considered an archaeological monument. On the eastern side of the base of the rock is the so-called almogaren del Bentayga, a construction that must have been a place of worship for the aborigines. A stone wall that runs along the base of the rock on its east and south sides could define the sacred space, although other sources point to its use as a defensive bulwark. Several rock engravings in the Libyan-Berber alphabet have recently been released, although there are doubts as to their authenticity.
