Description
Chicory flower on the background of a wheat field. Chicory Latin: Cichórium is a genus of biennial or perennial herbs in the family Asteraceae, or compound Flowers. The genus includes two cultivated species and at least eight wild ones. The Mediterranean is considered to be the birthplace of chicory. This plant is widespread in the temperate zone and in the tropics. It is found in Eurasia, North Africa, South America, Australia, North America and New Zealand. In wild form, chicory is found on forest edges, in meadows, wasteland, along the edge of fields and along country roads, near localities. In the mountains, chicory does not rise above the middle belt. This plant is specially grown, taking away entire fields for its planting.
