Interior, of the Saint-Nazaire-et-Saint-Celse Basilica, of the City of Carcassonne. #190132832
Description
We do not know what happened to this cathedral during the occupation of Septimania and Carcassonne by the Muslims in 725. After the capture of Carcassonne by Pépin le Bref in 759, tradition dictates that Charlemagne had noted the Saint-Nazaire church. The first authentic text, mentioning the Cathedral of Carcassonne under the invocation of Saint Nazaire dates from 925, under Bishop Gimer.
