The Pacific Ocean from the Latin name Mare Pacificum = calm sea is the largest ocean in the world, covering about 33% of the Earth`s surface. The ocean has a total area of 165.3 million km² and stretches for about 15,500 km from the Bering Strait in the north to the Ross Sea in Antarctica. The western boundary of the ocean is the Straits of Malacca, and to the east the ocean is bordered by the Americas.
