Description
Padrao dos Descobrimento or Monument to the Discoveries is a monument that celebrates the Portuguese who took part in the Age of Discovery, or the Age of Exploration. It is located on the estuary of the Tagus river in the Portuguese Belem parish of Lisbon where ships departed to their often unknown destinations. At the tip of the monument, looking out over the river, you see Henry the Navigator. At the background a part of the 25 de Abril Bridge. In the foreground a red brick lighthouse.
