La pescaia di Santa Rosa - The weir of Santa Rosa - seen from Ponte alla Carraia, Florence. #193556771
Description

The weir of Santa Rosa is located in Florence on the Lungarno Vespucci, under a terrace overlooking the river Arno. It owes its name to the tower of Santa Rosa, nearby in Oltrarno. Currently it performs the task of protecting the liquid and solid flow of the river, preventing hydrogeological risks that could destabilize the riverbed. In fact, it stabilizes the banks and favors the formation of backfill areas, in continuous evolution, of considerable ecological and naturalistic interest and to partially understand river dynamics. It encourages the waters to modify it and helps to maintain their natural flow. At that point there is a considerable jump of 5-7 meters above sea level, and the strength of the current is considerable as well as its naturalness. The weir is made up of the remains of the mills and the constructions of the lock, demolished at the time of the construction of the Lungarno. Near the weir of Santa Rosa passes the Amerigo Vespucci bridge, which leads to the village of San Frediano. Barring the course of a river used for fishing; sluice designed to raise the water level for a stretch and divert part of the current. Florence, Tuskany, Italy.
