Guatemalan Protest Against Government During COVID-19 Pandemic Editorial Image

Guatemalan citizens hold a protest against the government, while practicing safety measures due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic emergency. Hundreds of protesters gather in front of the National Palace, the government’s main administration building, where the offices of the President, Vice-President and several ministries are located, to protest against alleged corruption that is rampant and out of control, poor handling of the pandemic by local authorities, a collapsed health system that has every hospital in the country overrun, and an inability by President Alejandro Giammattei to be a proper Head-of-State. The protesters practice safety measures against COVID-19 such as wearing a mask and keeping their social distance. The protest organizers announced that this will be the first of many protest to come, as they demand the resignation of President Giammattei and the other presidents of the Legislative Congress and Supreme Court of Justice, the other branches of the government.
