Potomac River Flooding #19570931
Description

The Tri-State area has been dealing with its share of spring storms. As of 8 p.m. Thursday, May 19,2011 2.56 inches of rain had fallen in Hagerstown since May 13, according to Hagerstown weather observer Greg Keefer’s website at www.i4weather.net. The area has seen 7 inches more rain than normal since March 1, Kramar said. The weather service measures area rainfall in Martinsburg, W.Va. he said. Because this latest system lingered so long, the Potomac and some area creeks jumped their banks, he said. On Thursday, the Potomac was reported at 22.8 feet at Williamsport at 11:57 a.m. It was expected to crest at that level, according to the weather service’s Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service. River Bottom Park as seen in this photo is covered in flood water and the road to it is closed.
