The Masjid Jamek is situated at the junction of the Klang river and the Gombak river and meet. Right at this very place has the civilization in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia started. The masjid (mosque) was built in 1907 and officially opened in 1909. The Masjid Jamek Kuala Lumpur is the oldest mosque in KL. Masjid Jamek was the main mosque of Kuala Lumpur untill 1965, when the national mosque of Malaysia was built near the railway station. Designed by Arthur Benison Hubbock, the mosque was built according to the Mogul architecture of India which uses red brick and detailed Islamic architecture. The mosque is easily reachable by the light rail transport and nearby various attractions for tourist in Malaysia.
